The Bible Institute of Hawai‘i - Center for Christian Studies believes that transformation happens within the context of a learning community…

  • A community grounded in the local church.
  • A community learning not only how to read the Bible, but to be transformed by it.
  • A community growing in the character of Christ and developing a more intimate relationship with Him.
  • A community of authenticity, knowing that in Christ we have been reborn into a new reality.
  • A community of compassion, cultivating in us a people of truth, peace, wholeness and holiness.
  • A community journeying together to encounter a living God, who turns our weaknesses and woundedness into spiritually vibrant lives.
  • A learning community changing the way we experience scripture

For the past thirty years, the Bible Institute of Hawai`i has served the local Christian community by providing Bible training and education to all who desired it, without academic, denominational, geographic or financial barriers.

Come join us on the journey as we embrace a lifestyle of biblical learning. “And do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

Some History

The Bible Institute of Hawai`i began in 1972 as an answer to the prayers from Hawai‘i’s people for biblical training in the islands. God answered these prayers through the Lutheran Bible Institute of Seattle when they formed an extension “campus” at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Waikiki. In 1983, Bible Institute became independent from the Lutheran denomination. Today, BIH is an evangelical, inter-denominational institution serving the local Christian community by conducting classes in churches across Hawai`i.

Rev. Donald W. Baron, BIH’s first Director and faculty, was instrumental in getting the ministry off the ground. His passion for God’s Word and his vision to see the local congregations strengthened through lay training, laid a solid foundation for the institute.

a

Today, Bible Institute of Hawai`i has Ada Lum as full-time faculty and numerous adjunct faculty to provide Bible and theological education for the members, leaders and pastors representing over 150 churches in the state. With four quarters and an average of 12 courses per quarter, the Bible Institute of Hawai‘i trains over 1000 students per year. BIH is considered the "most easily accessible" for: Bible education, Bible training, character building, leadership developing and partnering with churches and ministries. Our faculty continues to challenge our students to engage in a lifestyle of significant biblical study—a lifestyle that calls forth transformation into the image of Christ, to be lived out in their churches and communities.
