CLIVE

The Board of Directors has named Clive M. Cowell Executive Director of Bible Institute of Hawaii.
 by Joanne Naai

Clive is no stranger to BIH, having taught as adjunct faculty over the past year. In the 90’s he even took a BIH course under former Executive Director, Rod Franklin. Originally from England, Clive earned his undergraduate degree in Industrial Studies from the University of Nottingham and a master’s degree in Biblical Studies from Multnomah Biblical Seminary in Portland, Oregon. At Multnomah, Clive also served as Teaching Fellow. He and his wife, Maya, spent two years in Japan as missionaries  in Japan.  He has also been involved in mission work in Thailand and the Philippines.  Most recently, he was church administrator at Honolulu Christian Church, their home congregation.

What is Clive most passionate about? He quickly opens his well-worn Bible to Paul’s Letter to Titus, indicating the first paragraph. “God has set in place a plan, and we can join Him in bringing about faith and godliness through scriptural knowledge,” he states. He is convinced that this scriptural knowledge which BIH is entrusted to share gives hope in eternal life, and helps us to live out faithful and holy lives. Clive sees his role at BIH as one of assisting others – faculty, board and staff members, students and supporters – to do their part in bringing about this very hope.

Clive and Maya’s time in Japan, where they assisted in three church plants (in Fukuoka, Fukuyama, and Okayama), also stirred in them a passion for the Japanese people. They hope one day to minister long-term in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Other passions include spending time with Maya (We are constantly talking about issues, discussing the movies we’ve seen, things we’re reading.) and running (Did you know that running is both an individual and a community activity? It’s goal-oriented and humbling.).

Oh, and one more thing:  chocolate cheesecake.

He hopes to meet you in the near future and “together” participate in God’s Kingdom community.
